PM Modi Highlights India’s Economic Growth in Independence Day Address
India has emerged as the world’s fastest-growing major economy over the past twelve years, according to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks during the 80th Independence Day celebrations at the Red Fort. He emphasized that this achievement comes despite India’s previous classification among the ‘Fragile Five’ economies. Modi credited the collective efforts of the people for this transformation, stating, “People’s efforts have resulted in taking India from fragile five to major economy in the last 12 years.”
Vision for Development by 2047
In his speech, Modi outlined a vision for India to become a developed nation by 2047. He asserted that the world would view India differently once it achieves this status as the most populous country. “India is dreaming big to touch new heights; we will make sure the country becomes developed by 2047,” he added.
The Independence Day ceremony was marked by patriotic fervor and extensive security measures. For the first time, ‘Vande Mataram’ was performed at the Red Fort during the celebrations, coinciding with the 150th anniversary of the song’s legacy. Floral arrangements featured the national flag at the center, with ‘Vande Mataram’ displayed in Hindi on either side.
Acknowledging Freedom Fighters
This year marks Modi’s 13th consecutive Independence Day speech. Earlier in the day, he paid homage to India’s freedom fighters, recognizing their sacrifices in the struggle against colonial rule. In a post on X, he stated that the ideals of these fighters continue to guide the nation as it strives for a developed India, or “Viksit Bharat.”
Modi expressed hope for continued momentum in India’s development journey, stating, “Powered by 140 crore Indians, our nation is scaling new heights of progress across different sectors.”
