NAKSHA: A New Era in Urban Land Surveying
The National Geospatial Knowledge-based Land Survey of Urban Habitations (NAKSHA) is set to launch in India. Union Minister of Rural Development and Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, will inaugurate this significant initiative in Raisen, Madhya Pradesh. The program will cover 152 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) across 26 states and 3 Union Territories. This pilot program, initiated by the Department of Land Resources under the Ministry of Rural Development, aims to revolutionize land record management in urban areas.
Objectives of the NAKSHA Program
The primary goal of the NAKSHA program is to create and update land records in urban settings. Accurate documentation of land ownership is crucial for empowering citizens. The Madhya Pradesh State Electronic Development Corporation (MPSEDC) will develop an end-to-end web-GIS platform for the program. Additionally, the National Informatics Centre Services Inc. (NICSI) will provide storage facilities for the data collected.

The use of advanced technology, such as drones for aerial surveys, will enhance the accuracy of land records.
