Managing Director of IMF calls on the President
The Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva, met with Smt Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan today (September 9, 2022).
The President welcomed Ms Georgieva to Rashtrapati Bhavan, noting that the world is currently experiencing its third year of the Covid pandemic. Multilateral institutions such as the IMF and the World Bank have provided substantial assistance to many low-income countries. The International Monetary Fund plays an instrumental role in maintaining the stability of the international monetary system, according to her.
The President stated that today, India is one of the world’s fastest-growing economies. India’s start-up ecosystem ranks high in the world. A shining example of our industrial progress is the success of start-ups in our country, especially the ever-increasing number of unicorns. Even more satisfying is the fact that our country’s development is becoming more inclusive, and regional disparities are also decreasing. India’s basic mantra is compassion – compassion for the downtrodden, compassion for the needy, and compassion for the marginalized.
Regarding the upcoming G-20 Summit in India in 2023, the President stated that multilateral cooperation should be based on the principles of inclusion and flexibility, keeping diversity in mind. During India’s presidency, she expressed confidence that the G-20 Forum will continue to work towards strengthening multilateralism and global governance in pursuit of peace, sustainability, and prosperity for all.
