Major Drug Bust in Delhi-NCR: ₹27.4 Crore Seized
In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced the dismantling of a major narco-network in the Delhi-NCR region. The operation, executed by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and Delhi Police, resulted in the seizure of methamphetamine, MDMA, and cocaine valued at ₹27.4 crore. Five individuals, including four African nationals, were arrested during the operation, underscoring the government’s commitment to combating drug-related crimes.
Details of the Operation
The operation was initiated following intelligence reports about a high-quality methamphetamine exchange in the Chhatarpur area of Delhi. A joint team from the NCB and the Special Cell of the Delhi Police conducted surveillance on the suspects, leading to the interception of a vehicle. Inside, authorities discovered 5.103 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, valued at approximately ₹10.2 crore. The five occupants of the vehicle were arrested, with four of them identified as members of an influential Nigerian family.
Further interrogation and technical analysis revealed that the drugs were sourced from an “African Kitchen” located in the Tilak Nagar area of West Delhi. A subsequent search of this location yielded an additional 1.156 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, 4.142 kilograms of Afghan heroin, and 5.776 kilograms of MDMA, collectively valued at around ₹16.4 crore. The investigation continued with a follow-up search at a rented apartment in Greater Noida, where authorities recovered 389 grams of Afghan heroin and 26 grams of cocaine.
Connections to Broader Drug Syndicates
Investigators uncovered that this drug syndicate was involved in facilitating African youth in peddling narcotics while also assisting them in obtaining student visas for studies at prominent universities in the National Capital Region (NCR) and Punjab. In some cases, these visas served merely as a cover for their actual activities in India, which included drug distribution and cryptocurrency conversions. Authorities are now working to trace both the backward and forward linkages of this extensive drug network.
