The Digi Yatra facility will be launched in 6 more airports namely Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Kochi, Lucknow, Jaipur and Guwahati airports in the month of August 2023. The deployment and installation of Digi Yatra infrastructure in these airports will be gradually.

Since its launch by Civil Aviation & Steel Minister Shri Jyotiraditya on 1 December 2022, at three airports, New Delhi, Varanasi and Bengaluru, Digi Yatra has been rolled out at four other airports, Vijayawada, Pune, Hyderabad and Kolkata, increasing the number of Digi Yatra airports to seven. With the addition of the aforementioned six airports, the total number of Digi Yatra-enabled airports will become thirteen.

By 10 August 2023, Digi Yatra was used by 34,60,454 passengers. As of the same date, the user base of Digi Yatra mobile application was 1.29 million.

Digi Yatra is a mobile application-based framework designed to achieve non-contact and seamless processing of passengers at airports based on facial recognition technology (FRT). It helps travelers pass through various checkpoints at airports through paperless and contactless processing using facial features to validate their identity and travel details.

In the Digi Yatra process, there is no central repository of passenger personally identifiable information (PII). All passenger data is encrypted and stored in their smartphone wallet. It is shared only between the passenger and the travel origin airport, where the passenger’s Digi Yatra ID needs to be validated. Data is deleted from the airport system within 24 hours of flight departure. Data is shared directly by passengers, only during the journey and only at the origin airport.
