PM addresses Rajya Sabha at the start of Winter Session of Parliament

In his address to the Rajya Sabha today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed the Vice President to the Upper House.

On behalf of all members of the parliament and all citizens of the country, the Prime Minister congratulated Shri Jagdeep Dhankar, Vice President of India & Chairman of Rajya Sabha. In bringing attention to the prestigious role of the Vice President of the country, the Prime Minister said it’s an inspiration for millions.

As the Prime Minister addressed the Chairman of Rajya Sabha, he expressed delight that today is Armed Forces Flag Day. He saluted the armed forces on behalf of the whole house. The Prime Minister acknowledged the contributions of the numerous families of Jhunjhunu, where the Vice President was born, who have played a prominent role in nation-building. As a Kisan Putra and a Sainik school graduate, the Vice President is closely associated with Jawans and Kisans.

Amidst two monumental events in India, the esteemed upper house of Parliament will be welcoming the Vice President, the Prime Minister stated. India got to enter the Azadi Ka Amrit Kaal and host the G-20 Summit, he added. In addition to marking a new era of development for New India, he said that India will play a key role in determining the direction of the world in the days to come. “Our democracy, our parliament, and our parliamentary system will play a crucial role in this journey,” he said.

Underlining that today marks the formal beginning of the Vice Presidentโ€™s term as Chairman of Rajya Sabha, the Prime Minister remarked that the responsibility enshrined upon the shoulders of the Upper House is associated with the concerns of the common man. โ€œIndia understands its responsibilities during this period and adheres to The Prime Minister also pointed out that the prestigious tribal society of India in the form of the President, Smt Draupadi Murmu is guiding the nation at this important juncture. He also threw light upon ex-President, Shri Ram Nath Kovind who reached the highest office in the country after hailing from a marginalized community.
