NCR Industries to Implement Enhanced Monitoring with New Cameras
The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has taken a significant step towards improving air quality in the National Capital Region (NCR) by mandating the expansion of Pan-Tilt-Zoom (PTZ) cameras across industries. This initiative aims to ensure real-time monitoring of fuel consumption and adherence to regulatory directives, addressing the critical issue of industrial emissions, particularly during the winter months when air quality deteriorates further.
Comprehensive Monitoring Measures
In response to the persistent use of unapproved fuels, the CAQM has outlined clear requirements for the installation of PTZ cameras at industrial sites. These cameras are to be positioned strategically to cover all fuel storage and charging points, as well as to monitor the gauges or meters if gas-based fuels are utilized. Industries are required to complete this installation by October 31, 2026.
Real-Time Data Streaming
According to the new order, industries must provide real-time streaming of video feeds to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and State Pollution Control Boards (SPCBs). This live data will enable remote oversight of fuel-use practices, thus enhancing compliance with statutory guidelines.
Infrastructure and Compliance
Furthermore, the CAQM has directed the CPCB and concerned SPCBs to establish portals and necessary infrastructure to capture these real-time video feeds. Implementing these measures will facilitate strict compliance monitoring by regulatory bodies. The SPCBs and the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) are required to report the status of implementation by November 1, 2026.
Addressing Fuel Compliance Issues
The push for real-time monitoring comes after the CAQM noticed instances of unapproved fuels being used during undercover inspections across the region. These findings have heightened the urgency for effective monitoring strategies. Previously, the CPCB had mandated the installation of PTZ cameras and Online Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems (OCEMS) in order to oversee emission levels from industries, including textile and food processing units as well as metal units.
This latest initiative by the CAQM underscores the commitment to tackling air pollution caused by industrial emissions, ensuring that industries adhere strictly to approved fuel use, and fostering a healthier environment for the residents of the NCR.
