Producer Prakash Mahobiya Claims ‘Negative Marketing’ Affects Mahakavya Shri Ramayan Katha’s Reach, Teases Big-Budget Ramayana
Producer Prakash Mahobiya has expressed concerns regarding the theatrical performance of his film, Mahakavya Shri Ramayan Katha. In a recent interview with India Today, he alleged that negative marketing and online campaigns significantly impacted the film’s reach. Mahobiya suggested that an upcoming big-budget adaptation of the same epic may have influenced the online narrative against his project, although he refrained from naming any specific film or filmmaker.
Allegations of Negative Marketing
Mahobiya emphasized that the film did not receive a fair chance to connect with audiences. He stated, “It was negative marketing throughout. We never got a chance to reach our audience. The ones who watched our film really enjoyed it. But if they never got to see it, how will they even have an opinion?” His comments reflect a deep frustration with the circumstances surrounding the film’s release.
The producer further claimed that he had received reports of digital creators being encouraged to dissuade viewers from watching Mahakavya Shri Ramayan Katha. He remarked, “From what we have been told, there are other movies on the same subject coming in, the big-budget film. As far as we know, a lot of negative marketing opportunities have been given to YouTubers, influencers and other people. They are spreading wrong information and asking people not to watch our film.” Mahobiya added, “I don’t know for sure, but that’s what we are being told.”
Upcoming Competition and Future Plans
His remarks come at a time when considerable attention is focused on Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming two-part adaptation of the Ramayana, produced by Namit Malhotra. This film features Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, and Yash as Raavan, making it one of the most anticipated Indian film projects. However, Mahobiya did not directly link this upcoming film to the alleged negative campaigns against his own project.
Reflecting on his experience as a first-time producer, Mahobiya acknowledged the challenges of marketing a film. He stated, “I have made a film for the first time, and I am new to this industry. I have no idea how to market a film after making it. We are not afraid of the loss, but we are disappointed that not many people managed to watch it. And hence, we want to release the film again.”
Distinct Interpretation of the Epic
Mahakavya Shri Ramayan Katha, directed by Abhishek Singh, was released in cinemas on September 25, 2026. The film stars Dev Sharma as Lord Ram, Anjali Arora as Goddess Sita, Sheel Verma as Laxman, and Rajniesh Duggall in a pivotal role. Mahobiya maintained that his film offers a unique interpretation of the epic, stating, “There is a lot of difference between your film and the other film that will arrive soon. But we are confident that, given a chance, people would have liked our film too.” Following its initial theatrical run, the makers are now considering a re-release to provide the film another opportunity to reach audiences.
