AI Revolutionizes Financial Advisory: Who Monitors the Shift in Money Management?

AI is rapidly transforming the finance sector, with its adoption among organizations surging from 30% in 2024 to 75% in 2026, according to KPMG’s latest report. The study surveyed 1,013 senior finance leaders across 20 countries and 13 sectors. Notably, 76% of organizations now utilize AI for financial planning, leading to improved decision-making quality for 70% of respondents, faster decision-making for 71%, and enhanced forecasting accuracy for 64%.

Major Uses of AI

AI’s integration into finance is primarily focused on automating routine tasks. This includes bookkeeping, reconciliation, invoice processing, and compliance. Pei Fu Hsieh, Co-founder of AI Accountant, noted that businesses are experiencing significant time savings in data entry and transaction categorization. This shift allows finance teams to focus more on analysis and strategic decision-making rather than on compiling data.

AI’s capabilities extend to individual financial management as well. Systems can now estimate tax liabilities based on personal financial records, providing insights into changes from previous years. However, areas requiring nuanced judgment, such as tax positions and treaty interpretations, still necessitate human oversight, as highlighted by Swaroop Repaka, VP Product at ClearTax.

Financial Analysis

AI is increasingly valuable in financial analysis, helping answer complex questions about investments and risk. KPMG’s research indicates that organizations are seeing improvements in decision-making quality and speed, as well as forecasting accuracy. Rajosik Banerjee, partner at KPMG India, emphasized that AI is not just about automation but is driving process transformation in finance.

Despite these advancements, human judgment remains crucial for accountability in decision-making. Deloitte’s research shows that while nearly 40% of Indian respondents report significant AI use, many organizations still lack comprehensive AI governance structures. Krishna Dev Pathak, an investment banker, cautioned against equating speed with better decision-making, stressing the importance of accuracy and control.

Risk Detection, Fraud, and Compliance

Financial institutions are leveraging AI to enhance risk detection and fraud prevention. AI can analyze transactions for unusual patterns and assess customer complaints to identify potential issues before they escalate. Sameer Narkar, CEO of Konnect Insights, noted that banks are increasingly monitoring customer interactions across various platforms to detect emerging concerns.

In the realm of compliance, AI is facilitating continuous monitoring of financial records and regulatory requirements. However, the rapid adoption of AI raises governance challenges. Animesh Sharma, CTO at Indifi Technologies, argued that companies must implement human oversight in AI processes to ensure accountability.

Governance and Accountability

As AI plays a more significant role in financial decisions, questions of accountability arise. Rahul Katariya, founder of Divya Financial Services, emphasized that financial decisions cannot be left solely to AI systems. Companies must establish clear rules regarding AI’s capabilities and the responsibilities of human operators.

Deloitte’s research indicates that fewer than 10% of organizations in India have the necessary governance structures for trustworthy AI. The Reserve Bank of India’s 2025 FREE-AI framework advocates for comprehensive governance throughout the AI lifecycle, emphasizing the need for human judgment in critical financial decisions.

AI’s Role in Financial Advice

AI tools like ChatGPT, Claude, and Grok provide financial advice but often lack personalization. While they offer useful starting points, their recommendations can be generic and may not consider individual circumstances. This limitation underscores the need for human advisors to interpret AI-generated insights within the context of clients’ unique financial situations.

The evolving landscape of finance suggests a future where AI complements human expertise rather than replacing it. AI will handle high-volume tasks and provide analytical support, while human judgment will remain essential for interpreting data and making informed decisions.
