SCOOP: Maatrubhumi’s Release Pushed to 2027; Salman Khan Set for Two Films Next Year

If all had gone according to plan, Salman Khan’s highly anticipated film, Maatrubhumi, would have already graced cinemas. Originally announced as Battle Of Galwan, the film was renamed earlier this year. It centers on the 2020 conflict between India and China. However, recent improvements in relations between the two nations have led the Ministry of Defence to express concerns about the film’s content, particularly its references to China, resulting in a delay for the project.

Potential Release Delays

A trade source informed Bollywood Hungama that while the filmmakers are making every effort to release Maatrubhumi this year, there is a chance the film’s release could be postponed until 2027. The source elaborated, “The issues are yet to be resolved. Even if they are resolved soon, it will now be difficult to secure a good release slot, as most major dates have already been taken.”

In the competitive landscape of Bollywood, it is common for actors and filmmakers to claim dates already occupied by other films. However, Salman Khan is known for his fairness in this regard. “He doesn’t believe in clashing with another film unnecessarily. Even if he decides to clash, he will inform the other party before making an announcement,” the source added.

Dussehra as a Possible Release Window

An industry insider has suggested that the Dussehra period could be an ideal time for Maatrubhumi to hit theaters. Dussehra falls on Tuesday, October 20, this year, and the day before typically functions as a major holiday, often leading to increased box office collections. The insider noted, “Maatrubhumi could benefit from an extended five-day weekend of sorts.”

Additionally, the film Ramayana is expected to be preponed to October 30, leaving no major releases scheduled until the last week of November, which could further work in Maatrubhumi‘s favor.

Competing Releases and Future Prospects

Currently, Rajkummar Rao’s Raftaar is set to release on October 16, alongside Emraan Hashmi and Genelia Deshmukh’s Gunmaaster G9, although the latter’s producers have yet to make an official announcement. The trade source continued, “If the issues are not resolved soon, Maatrubhumi will be pushed to next year. This would mean that Salman Khan could have two releases in 2027.”
