IIPA Expands Outreach for Inclusive Governance Capacity Building

In a bid to enhance governance and capacity building across India, Dr. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State for Science and Technology, has highlighted the need for improved outreach by the Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA). During the 72nd Annual General Body Meeting, he emphasized that the institute must extend its geographical reach beyond the national capital to make its resources available to a broader audience.

Dr. Singh, also the Chairman of the IIPA Executive Council, articulated the importance of making learning opportunities and professional networks accessible for officials and professionals in various regions. He acknowledged the motivation stemming from IIPA’s efforts to expand its activities outside of Delhi and expressed a commitment to building upon this momentum.

Enhancing Regional Presence

The Minister stressed the necessity of strengthening IIPA’s Regional and Local Branches to facilitate broader participation and knowledge dissemination. A robust regional presence will allow the institute to more effectively connect with public administration professionals and extend its academic activities to a wider geographical base.

Broadening Membership and Digital Learning

Dr. Jitendra Singh also underscored the importance of expanding IIPA’s membership framework. This includes creating opportunities for younger professionals and recent graduates, which has helped raise IIPA’s membership to an impressive 11,611. This diverse community now includes experienced administrators, young professionals, and researchers all passionate about public administration.

Digital learning and online courses were highlighted as vital tools for increasing access to training and resources. The Minister encouraged collaboration with the private sector to broaden learning resources available to a larger audience, complementing IIPA’s physical outreach.

A Legacy of Nation-Building

Reflecting on IIPA’s historical journey since its establishment in 1954, Dr. Singh invoked the legacy of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and underlined the vital role of civil services in the nation-building process. He reiterated the importance of strengthening public administration through ongoing learning, research, and professional development as India moves towards its vision of Viksit Bharat.

During the 2025–26 period, IIPA successfully completed 45 research projects and conducted 130 training programs, including initiatives specifically for State Government officials. With 26 Regional Branches and 43 Local Branches currently operational, the institute is well-positioned to reinforce its network and further its mission of inclusive capacity building.

Future Goals

The Annual General Body Meeting also highlighted key discussions focused on enhancing IIPA’s contributions to public administration, widening participation, and ensuring a more substantial impact of its academic and capacity-building initiatives within the broader vision for India by 2047.
