India-UK Trade Agreement to Unlock New Opportunities Beyond Commerce, Mobility Enhancement

The India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement will officially take effect on July 15, as announced by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri at the G7 Summit in Evian. This agreement aims to enhance bilateral relations, focusing on trade, technology, and regional security. Misri emphasized that the pact will create new opportunities for businesses and individuals in both countries.

Misri stated that the agreement is expected to significantly boost annual bilateral trade, which currently stands at approximately £48 billion. He noted that businesses in both nations have been preparing for the agreement’s implementation, eager to advance their expansion and growth plans. The UK is recognized as one of India’s largest trading partners, and the agreement also addresses mobility between the two nations.

In addition to the India-UK agreement, Misri highlighted ongoing negotiations for a free trade agreement between India and the European Union. These discussions were reinforced during Prime Minister Modi’s meetings with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President António Costa. The goal is to finalize the agreement before the end of 2026, with both sides committed to expediting the process.
