Jewar’s Noida International Airport to Launch First Cargo Flight Today, Transitioning from Passengers to Parcels

Jewar’s Noida International Airport (NIA) is set to handle its first cargo flight on Wednesday, following the commencement of commercial passenger operations just days earlier. This milestone marks a significant step in establishing the airport as a key aviation and cargo hub for northern India. The airport will cater to domestic, international, and express cargo, with direct truck access via the Yamuna Expressway to enhance the movement of goods.

The cargo facilities at NIA, developed by Air India SATS (AISATS), have an initial handling capacity of 200,000 metric tonnes annually, with plans to expand this to 1.5 million tonnes. The cargo hub will utilize digital systems, including the IATA-recommended E-Freight platform, to streamline documentation, enable end-to-end live tracking, and support paperless movement of goods.
The airport features 22,000 square meters of warehouse space and two dedicated freighter bays for round-the-clock operations. It is equipped with advanced systems such as COSYS+, e-Acceptance, and cargo community platforms to facilitate real-time tracking and improve operational efficiency. Additionally, the facility includes 19 truck docks, nine X-ray machines, and 12 Unit Load Device roller decks, designed to ensure speed, security, and high throughput.
Earlier this week, NIA began commercial flight operations, marking a major milestone for the greenfield aviation project in Jewar. An IndiGo flight from Lucknow’s Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport was the first commercial flight to land at the airport. Among the passengers were around 170 farmers from the Jewar region, including 20 women, who had voluntarily given up their ancestral land for the airport project. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the airport on March 28.
