Delhi High Court Responds to Salman Khan’s Personality Rights Case Against ‘Kala Hiran’ Makers

The Delhi High Court has taken a significant step in the ongoing legal battle involving Bollywood superstar Salman Khan and the makers of the film “Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy.” On Friday, Justice Neena Bansal Krishna issued notices to the film’s producers and key personnel after Khan sought to prevent the film’s release. The court has scheduled a further hearing on this matter for June 19.
Legal Concerns Over Character Resemblance
Khan’s legal representative, advocate Nizam Pasha, informed the court that a promotional poster released on May 29 featured a character that closely resembles the actor. Pasha pointed out that the character was depicted wearing a bracelet similar to one that is widely associated with Khan. He argued that the film violates a Delhi High Court order from December 11, 2025, which protects the actor’s personality rights.
During the proceedings, Pasha emphasized that the project infringes on the earlier judicial order safeguarding Khan’s identity and associated attributes. Although the filmmakers had not officially announced a release date, the trailer for “Kala Hiran” was launched on Friday, contrary to previous indications that it would be unveiled on June 20.
Ongoing Legal Issues Related to Blackbuck Case
The court also addressed the legal issues surrounding the blackbuck poaching case involving Khan. Pasha noted that four FIRs had been registered in connection with this case. He mentioned that Khan had been acquitted in three of them, while a Special Leave Petition (SLP) remains pending in the fourth matter, with no operative order issued yet. Pasha argued that the filmmakers are attempting to exploit Khan’s identity for commercial gain and requested an injunction to restrain the film’s release.
When the court inquired about the film’s release plans, Khan’s legal team clarified that no official release date had been declared by the producers. In his plea, Khan asserted that the film’s promotional materials contained explicit references to him, with the character in the publicity content closely resembling him and wearing a distinctive bracelet. Khan has consistently maintained that the unauthorized use of his likeness, image, and identifiable characteristics constitutes a violation of his personality rights and legal protections.
