The company is gearing up for an impressive lineup of projects that will span various genres and feature prominent stars, including Aamir Khan and Sunny Deol. This expansion marks an exciting phase for the production house as it aims to deliver diverse content to audiences.
New Thriller in Collaboration with Kanika Dhillon
In a recent development, Excel Entertainment is collaborating with screenwriter Kanika Dhillon on an intense thriller. Kanika, known for her compelling narratives, has penned the script and will co-produce the film under her Kathha Pictures banner. This project marks her third production venture, following the 2023 mystery thriller “Do Patti,” featuring Kajol and Kriti Sanon, and the upcoming Netflix film “Gandhari,” starring Taapsee Pannu, which is set to premiere later this year.
While specific details about the thriller remain under wraps, sources indicate that it will delve into themes of morality, ethics, and complex societal issues. The story will center around two bold and intricate characters. Farhan Akhtar and Kanika Dhillon have been actively developing the project over the past few months and are currently in advanced discussions to finalize the lead cast. Although a director has yet to be confirmed, the producers plan to begin filming by the end of this year or early 2027.
Kanika Dhillon’s Acclaimed Writing Career
Kanika Dhillon has gained recognition for her work on films that feature complex, bold, and flawed female protagonists. Her notable writing credits include “Haseen Dilruba,” “Manmarziyaan,” “Guilty,” and “Judgementall Hai Kya.” Additionally, she has contributed to the scripts of “Dunki,” “Kedarnath,” and “Raksha Bandhan.” Her upcoming project, “Gandhari,” is an action thriller that showcases Taapsee Pannu as a fierce mother on a mission. Directed by Devashish Makhija, known for “Joram” and “Bhonsle,” the film is currently in post-production.
Excel Entertainment’s Expanding Slate
Excel Entertainment is currently managing a diverse slate of projects in various stages of production. Among these is “Lalkaara,” a sports drama starring Aamir Khan and directed by Ashutosh Gowariker. Another project, “Antony,” is a high-octane action thriller featuring Sunny Deol and Jyothika. Additionally, the production house is working on “Mirzapur: The Film,” a cinematic adaptation of the popular Prime Video series, which is set to hit theaters on September 4. Other projects in the pipeline include Neeraj Pandey’s biopic on R.D. Burman and Abhishek Chaubey’s upcoming Prime Video series.
