Citi CEO Jane Fraser Encourages Indian Companies to Recognize Their Value

MUMBAI: Citi’s global CEO Jane Fraser has urged India to maintain confidence in its long-term growth narrative, despite facing short-term challenges. Speaking at the Citi India conference, Fraser emphasized that while immediate headwinds exist, the structural advantages of India are compelling and recognized by global investors. She noted that the focus should shift from short-term issues to the country’s strong fundamentals, including demographics, digital infrastructure, policy continuity, and capital formation.

Fraser highlighted that India’s growth strategy distinguishes it from many developed economies. She pointed out that while some countries, including the UK, tend to protect existing assets, India is actively building and expanding its capabilities. “That’s India… it may not always get star points. Doesn’t matter because you get the results,” she stated. This proactive approach, according to Fraser, is crucial for sustained growth.

Investor sentiment towards India remains robust, even amid global volatility. Fraser acknowledged that while investment flows may fluctuate due to external factors like US interest rates and geopolitical events, the long-term allocation to India remains strong. She noted that investors are increasingly interested in sectors related to domestic consumption, infrastructure, and technology, particularly artificial intelligence. Fraser remarked on the significant investments being made in AI infrastructure, citing the country’s technological talent as a key asset.
