Russia to Increase Energy Supply to India Amid Middle East Volatility Concerns
Russia has announced plans to boost its crude oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies to India amid rising tensions in the Middle East that are impacting global energy markets. This commitment was made during high-level discussions in New Delhi involving Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov and key Indian officials, including National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. The ongoing crisis has led to significant disruptions in energy shipments, prompting India to seek alternative sources to stabilize its energy supply.
Energy Cooperation Amid Global Volatility
The discussions between Russia and India focused heavily on energy cooperation, particularly in light of the ongoing crisis in the Middle East. Denis Manturov confirmed that Russian companies are well-positioned to increase their oil and LNG supplies to India. This assurance comes as the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial shipping route for approximately 20% of the world’s oil and LNG exports, faces disruptions. Manturov also emphasized Russia’s commitment to supporting India’s fertilizer needs, noting a 40% increase in supplies expected by the end of 2025.
