India Offers One-Month Visa Extension for Foreigners Stranded Amid Middle East Conflict
India has taken significant steps to assist foreign nationals stranded in the country due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. The Indian Consulate in Dubai announced that all expiring visas and e-visas will be extended for one month at no cost. Additionally, penalties for overstays caused by the conflict will be waived, and exit permits will be issued free of charge. This decision comes amid escalating tensions in the region, affecting travel and security.
Visa Extensions and Waivers
The Indian government has announced a one-month extension for all visas and e-visas that are set to expire soon. This extension is available free of charge and can be processed through the jurisdictional Foreigners Regional Registration Offices (FRROs). In a bid to alleviate the concerns of foreign nationals, authorities have also stated that any penalties for overstaying will be waived if the delay is due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. This measure aims to provide relief to those who find themselves unable to leave India due to the current situation.
Exit Permits and Temporary Landing Permits
In addition to visa extensions, the Indian authorities are offering exit permits at no cost to foreign nationals affected by travel disruptions. These permits will allow individuals to leave India once travel routes are reopened. The Indian Consulate has clarified that if a foreign national is unable to apply for an exit permit or visa extension due to the conflict, it will not be considered a violation of immigration rules. Furthermore, a Temporary Landing Permit (TLP) will be granted free of charge to those whose flights have been diverted to India, ensuring that they can remain in the country legally during this challenging time.
Impact on Indian Nationals and Flight Operations
As the conflict escalates, nearly 500 Indian nationals have successfully traveled from Qatar to India and other destinations on flights operated by Qatar Airways. The Indian Embassy in Doha has issued advisories regarding these flights, which include routes to Kochi and other locations. The airline has also facilitated the transportation of the remains of two Indian nationals who passed away due to natural causes, along with their family members, demonstrating a commitment to humanitarian efforts. However, the embassy noted that Qatar’s airspace remains only partially open, which has limited flight operations.

The ongoing conflict in the Middle East has led to heightened security concerns, particularly with Iranian missile and drone strikes targeting U.S. military bases and civilian infrastructure across the Gulf region.
