Shakti Walk Celebrates Women’s Empowerment on International Women’s Day

The Ministry of Women and Child Development hosted the ‘Shakti Walk #SheLeadsBharat’ at Kartavya Path, New Delhi, on International Women’s Day 2026. This event celebrated the essence of Nari Shakti, emphasizing women’s pivotal role in fostering a progressive and inclusive India.

Under the leadership of Union Minister Smt. Annpurna Devi and Minister of State Smt. Savitri Thakur, the Shakti Walk drew an impressive gathering that included the Chief Minister of Delhi, Smt. Rekha Gupta, and Smt. Anupriya Patel, Minister of State in the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. Notable figures such as Smt. Vijaya Kishore Rahatkar, Chairperson of the National Commission for Women, and Shri Anil Malik, Secretary of the Ministry of Women and Child Development, also graced the occasion.
Honoring Women and Their Achievements
Every year, International Women’s Day, celebrated on March 8, recognizes the outstanding achievements and leadership of women globally while reinforcing the commitment to gender equality and empowerment. The Shakti Walk served as an inspiring reminder of this mission.
Commencement and Cultural Showcase
The event kicked off at Kartavya Path, India Gate, with a patriotic rendition of the national song _Vande Mataram_. Following this, Smt. Annpurna Devi flagged off the walk, symbolizing unity and collective resolve in empowering women. Participants walked an approximate 2-kilometre stretch from India Gate to Vijay Chowk, showcasing government initiatives and women’s accomplishments along the way.
Cultural performances enriched the event, with diverse acts representing the unique heritage of various Indian states, such as Dollu Kunitha from Karnataka and Ghoomar from Rajasthan, celebrating the cultural richness and strength of Indian women.
A Unified Spirit of Empowerment
Over 3,000 women from around 200 ministries, departments, and organizations joined the celebration. The participants hailed from various sectors including the Armed Forces, police, healthcare, and education, underscoring the widespread commitment to women’s empowerment. Their presence transformed Kartavya Path into a vibrant display of Nari Shakti, marching towards the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.

During her address, Union Minister Smt. Annpurna Devi emphasized that launching International Women’s Day celebrations with the Shakti Walk sends a powerful message nationwide. She acknowledged the capabilities of women across various sectors and commended Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s ongoing efforts to empower women.
Delhi Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta, speaking at the event’s conclusion, stated that “Nari Shakti is the Bhagya Vidhata of Bharat.” She affirmed that, under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, Indian women would continue making significant contributions to the nation’s progress.
