SBI Funds Management’s Stock Debut Creates Crorepati Employees with 7% Premium Over IPO Price

SBI Funds Management made a strong debut on the stock market, listing at a premium of approximately 7% over its IPO price. The stock opened at Rs 610 on the BSE, reflecting a gain of 6.27% from the issue price of Rs 574, while it listed at Rs 613.30 on the NSE. The company’s entry into the market follows robust institutional demand, with significant backing from major investors.

Employee Wealth Generation

The IPO has generated substantial wealth for several executives at SBI Funds Management. Based on the IPO issue price, 13 employees hold equity stakes valued at over Rs 1 crore each. Deputy Managing Director Devinder Pal Singh stands to gain the most, with his vested shareholding valued at around Rs 121 crore. Chief Investment Officer Srinivasan Rama Iyer follows closely, with a stake worth about Rs 105 crore.

Singh’s 21.14 lakh vested shares are valued at nearly Rs 121 crore, and he also holds unvested stock options that could be worth an additional Rs 30 crore if exercised. Iyer’s 18.25 lakh vested shares have an estimated value of around Rs 105 crore, with unvested options valued at roughly Rs 51 crore at the offer price. Other senior executives are also positioned for significant gains, including Chief of Strategy, Digital & Technology Srinivas Jain, whose vested shares are worth close to Rs 59 crore.

Strong Institutional Demand

SBI Funds Management attracted robust institutional interest prior to its IPO. The company raised nearly Rs 2,663 crore from anchor investors, with participation from 129 marquee institutions, including BlackRock and Goldman Sachs. Additionally, it secured approximately Rs 1,880 crore through a pre-IPO placement.

The IPO saw strong investor interest during its three-day subscription period from July 14 to July 16, with the issue being subscribed nearly 42 times overall. Qualified institutional buyers drove the demand, with their portion oversubscribed around 140 times. The non-institutional investor category saw subscriptions of 22.51 times, while the retail segment was subscribed 3.6 times.
