Rajpal Yadav Turns Himself In Over Rs 9 Crore Cheque Bounce Case

Actor Rajpal Yadav, celebrated for his comedic roles in Hindi films, has surrendered to Tihar Jail in Delhi due to a long-standing cheque-bounce case involving nearly ₹9 crores. This legal issue stems from a loan taken in 2010 for his directorial debut, which ultimately failed, leading to significant financial troubles. Following his surrender, numerous figures from the film industry and political circles have stepped forward to offer financial support to help Yadav navigate his legal and monetary challenges.

Background of the Case

The cheque-bounce case against Rajpal Yadav dates back to 2010 when he borrowed ₹5 crores from M/s Murali Projects Pvt Ltd to fund his film, *Ata Pata Laapata*. Unfortunately, the film did not perform well at the box office, resulting in substantial losses for the actor. Over the years, the original loan amount ballooned due to accumulated interest and penalties, reaching approximately ₹9 crores. In an effort to settle his debts, Yadav issued several cheques to the lender, but these were dishonored, prompting legal action under the Negotiable Instruments Act.

On February 2, 2026, the Delhi High Court ordered Yadav to surrender by 4 PM on February 4, citing his repeated breaches of court undertakings. When he appeared in court on February 5, his lawyer proposed a demand draft of ₹25 lakhs and a new payment plan. However, the judge refused to revoke the surrender order, emphasizing the need for discipline within the judicial system. Consequently, Yadav surrendered to Tihar Jail and began serving a six-month sentence, with jail officials confirming that all standard procedures were followed.

Support from the Film Industry

In light of Yadav’s incarceration, several prominent figures from the film industry have offered financial assistance. Music producer Rao Inderjeet Singh Yadav, who owns GemTunes Music, pledged ₹1.1 crores to support the actor. He expressed his sentiments, stating, “Rajpal ji has given immeasurable joy to audiences and has been an integral part of Indian cinema. This support is not about money; it is about standing with a fellow human being in his time of need.” He also encouraged others in the industry to contribute.

Actors Sonu Sood and Gurmeet Chaudhary, along with Tej Pratap Yadav, the national president of Jan Shakti Janata Dal, have also extended their support. Tej Pratap Yadav shared a message on social media, expressing empathy for Yadav’s family during this challenging time and announcing a financial contribution of ₹11 lakhs. Similarly, actor and film critic Kamaal R Khan (KRK) offered ₹10 lakhs and called on the film fraternity to unite in raising funds to help Yadav settle his debts and secure his release.

Rajpal Yadav’s Recent Work

Despite his current legal troubles, Rajpal Yadav remains a notable figure in the film industry. He was last seen in the films *Baby John* and *Interrogation*, and he is set to appear in the upcoming horror-comedy *Bhoot Bangla*, featuring Akshay Kumar, which is scheduled for release on April 10. Yadav’s career has spanned over two decades, and he is well-regarded for his contributions to Indian cinema, particularly in comedic roles that resonate with audiences.

As the situation unfolds, the support from his peers highlights the sense of community within the film industry, as many rally to assist Yadav during this difficult period.
