Market Recap: Top 10 Valued Companies See Combined Market Cap Increase of Rs 75,855 Cr
The combined market capitalization of three of India’s top ten most valuable companies surged by ₹75,855.43 crore during a holiday-shortened trading week, led by significant gains from State Bank of India (SBI) and Infosys. Despite this rise, the broader equity market remained relatively stagnant, with the BSE Sensex experiencing a slight decline and the NSE Nifty showing only a modest increase. The overall market sentiment was cautious, reflecting limited trading activity due to the holiday.
Market Performance Overview
During the week, the benchmark indices displayed minimal movement. The BSE Sensex dipped by 5.89 points, while the NSE Nifty managed to gain 11.05 points. This lack of significant fluctuation in the indices indicates a sluggish trend in the equity market. According to reports from news agency PTI, only SBI, Infosys, and ICICI Bank saw their market valuations increase among the top ten firms by market capitalization. In contrast, seven other major companies, including Reliance Industries and HDFC Bank, collectively lost ₹75,549.89 crore in value, highlighting a mixed performance among the leading players in the market.
Top Gainers: SBI and Infosys Shine
SBI emerged as the standout performer of the week, with its market valuation soaring by ₹39,045.51 crore, bringing its total to ₹9,62,107.27 crore. Infosys closely followed, witnessing an increase of ₹31,014.59 crore, raising its market capitalization to ₹7,01,889.59 crore. Additionally, ICICI Bank added ₹5,795.33 crore to its valuation, which now stands at ₹10,09,470.28 crore. These gains from the three companies were significant enough to offset the losses incurred by the other seven firms, showcasing a notable divergence in market performance among the top players.
Major Losses Among Heavyweights
On the flip side, Reliance Industries experienced the most substantial decline, with its market capitalization dropping by ₹23,952.48 crore to ₹19,72,493.21 crore. Other companies also faced significant losses, including Larsen & Toubro, which saw a decrease of ₹23,501.80 crore, bringing its valuation down to ₹5,30,410.23 crore. HDFC Bank’s market value fell by ₹11,615.35 crore, while Bharti Airtel and Bajaj Finance lost ₹6,443.38 crore and ₹6,253.59 crore, respectively. Hindustan Unilever’s market capitalization also slipped by ₹3,312.93 crore. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) experienced a relatively minor decline of ₹470.36 crore, with its valuation now at ₹11,60,212.12 crore.
Market Sentiment and Future Outlook
Despite the fluctuations in market valuations, the sentiment towards IT stocks showed signs of improvement, particularly after Infosys raised its revenue growth guidance for FY26. This announcement positively impacted its share price and market value. However, overall investor sentiment remained cautious, influenced by limited trading activity due to the holiday. Despite the week’s ups and downs, Reliance Industries retained its position as India’s most valued listed company, followed by HDFC Bank, TCS, Bharti Airtel, ICICI Bank, SBI, Infosys, Bajaj Finance, Hindustan Unilever, and Larsen & Toubro, maintaining the established hierarchy among the nation’s corporate giants.
