Waves 2025 Features Breakout Session on Madhya Pradesh’s Emerging Role

A significant session titled “Digital Dreams & Cinematic Visions: Madhya Pradesh as the Next Creative Hub” took place today at Waves 2025 in Mumbai. Moderated by Naman Ramachandran, an International Correspondent for Variety, the event featured the official launch of the Film Tourism Policy 2025 by renowned producer and director Ekta Kapoor. The session also introduced the AVGC XR Policy 2025 and the Second Phase of the Madhya Pradesh Film Cell Portal, highlighting the state’s commitment to becoming a premier destination for filmmakers.

Launch of Film Tourism Policy 2025

Ekta Kapoor’s unveiling of the Film Tourism Policy 2025 marks a pivotal moment for Madhya Pradesh’s film industry. During her address, Kapoor emphasized the importance of various factors when selecting a film destination, including financial rebates, the simplicity of obtaining shooting permissions, and the aesthetic appeal of the location. She underscored that these elements are crucial for filmmakers looking to create compelling visual narratives. The new policy aims to enhance the state’s attractiveness as a filming location, making it easier for productions to choose Madhya Pradesh over other regions.

Government Officials Highlight Madhya Pradesh’s Potential

Shri Sheo Shekhar Shukla, the Principal Secretary of the Tourism Department for Madhya Pradesh, spoke about the state’s rich cultural heritage and its growing reputation as a filmmaker’s paradise. He noted that Madhya Pradesh offers a supportive environment for shooting, backed by one of the most competitive financial incentive policies in the country. The new policy, referred to as 2.0, introduces increased incentives and special provisions for films that utilize local languages and talent. Shukla expressed confidence that Madhya Pradesh could rival Mumbai as a filmmaking hub, aiming to attract more productions to the state.

Support for AVGC and Related Sectors

Sanjay Dubey, the Additional Chief Secretary of the Department of IT and DST, discussed the newly launched AVGC policy, which is designed to bolster both pre and post-production processes. This initiative also aims to promote sectors such as animation, gaming, and visual effects (VFX). Dubey highlighted the government’s proactive approach to supporting filmmakers, emphasizing its willingness to take risks to foster a thriving creative industry in Madhya Pradesh.

Industry Leaders Share Insights

Shobha Sant, CEO of Creativeland Studios, shared her positive experiences from filming *Stree 2* in Madhya Pradesh, utilizing local talent and resources. She mentioned that international productions, including *Lion* and *A Suitable Boy*, have also successfully filmed in the state. Sant noted that an upcoming Australian co-production has chosen Madhya Pradesh as its filming location, reinforcing the state’s appeal. Other panelists, including Jyotirmoy Saha from August Media Group and Ashish Kulkarni from FICCI AVGC, echoed these sentiments, discussing how the new policies will foster creative hubs throughout the state and promote its diverse attractions, including local cuisine and cultural sites.
