The Vice President flagging off the team from Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti (BMVSS) to Syria to set up an on-the-spot artificial limb (Jaipur Foot) fitment camp from Upa-Rashtrapati Nivas today.
In an address today, the Vice President, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar, stated that “serving those in need is the highest form of religion” and encouraged individuals to make a positive contribution to society in their own way.
As part of his mission to establish an on-site artificial limb fitment camp in Syria, the Vice President flagged off an eight-person team from Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti (BMVSS). With the aid of the team, 600 artificial limbs will be provided to amputees in 42 days from a base in Damascus, Syria.
Announcing the efforts of BMVSS, Shri Dhankhar said the organization has demonstrated India’s civilisational ethos of sharing and caring by popularizing the Jaipur Foot around the world and offering its services free of charge. As with the other initiatives they have undertaken, the latest effort will also generate enormous goodwill for India, he stated.
Shri Dhankhar complimented the team for taking up the mission in Syria and wished them all success. He also interacted with the team from BMVSS, led by its founder, Shri D.R. Mehta, and some of its beneficiaries.
The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, visited one of such BMVSS centres in the Philippines in 2017 and the former Vice President, Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu, inaugurated a BMVSS fitment camp in Hanoi, Vietnam in 2019.
