TruthTell Hackathon Aims to Combat Misinformation

The TruthTell Hackathon, part of the Create in India Challenge โ Season 1, is set to revolutionize the media landscape by developing AI-driven tools for real-time fact-checking during live broadcasts. Supported by key organizations, including the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting and the India Cellular & Electronics Association, this initiative is a cornerstone of the inaugural World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (WAVES), scheduled for May 1-4, 2025, in Mumbai.
Innovative Solutions for Ethical Journalism
The TruthTell Hackathon invites participants to create AI-powered solutions aimed at countering misinformation and enhancing ethical journalism. Participants can register individually or form teams of up to five, comprising developers, data scientists, and media professionals. The registration period has now closed, with the final date being February 21, 2025. This hackathon has already attracted significant interest, with 5,650 participants registered, including 186 international entries. Participants will tackle various tasks, including dataset preparation, developing real-time natural language processing (NLP) models, and integrating fact-checking APIs. The goal is to create a comprehensive tool that can analyze live broadcasts, verify content, and provide real-time alerts to broadcasters. This initiative not only promotes innovation but also emphasizes the importance of responsible journalism in todayโs digital age.
WAVES Summit: A Global Media Hub
The WAVES Summit, taking place at the Jio World Convention Centre and Jio World Gardens in Mumbai, aims to connect the global media and entertainment industry with Indian talent and resources. The summit will focus on four key pillars: Broadcasting & Infotainment, AVGC-XR, Digital Media & Innovation, and Films. By bringing together industry leaders, creators, and technologists, WAVES seeks to showcase the future of Indiaโs entertainment sector. The TruthTell Hackathon is a vital component of the Broadcasting and Infotainment pillar, highlighting the need for innovative solutions to combat misinformation. The event promises to be a melting pot of ideas, fostering collaboration among participants from diverse backgrounds and expertise.
Guidelines and Evaluation Criteria
Participants in the TruthTell Hackathon are required to submit a written proposal detailing their project description, problem statement, target audience, technical approach, and development timeline. Additionally, they must present a working prototype that demonstrates the core functionality of their tool. The evaluation criteria for the hackathon include the potential impact of the solution, technical merit, scalability, user experience, and the clarity of the project presentation. The top five winners will be recognized and awarded at the WAVES event, with cash prizes for their innovative contributions.
