Sarfaraz Khan Unfazed by Recent Struggles

This season has been challenging for Sarfaraz Khan, who has yet to score a half-century in the ongoing Ranji Trophy. Despite his impressive first-class record, which includes 16 centuries and an average of 63.10, Sarfaraz has struggled with scores of 42, 32, 1, 15, 5 not out, and 16 across four matches. In stark contrast, his teammate Siddhesh Lad has excelled, amassing 360 runs in the same number of matches, including two centuries. As Mumbai prepares to face Pondicherry, Sarfaraz remains optimistic about his performance and the team’s prospects.

Sarfaraz Khan’s current form has raised eyebrows, especially considering his past achievements. The 28-year-old has accumulated only 111 runs this season, averaging 22.20. However, he remains unfazed by his recent struggles. Sarfaraz expressed confidence in his abilities, stating, “You can’t score runs in every match. I scored so many runs in the last four seasons.” He emphasized the importance of team success over individual performance, highlighting that the focus should be on winning the Ranji Trophy. Sarfaraz’s younger brother, Musheer Khan, has also made a mark this season, scoring 112, 49, and 63 in his three innings.

Sarfaraz praised Mumbai’s captain, Shardul Thakur, for his selfless leadership style. He noted that Thakur prioritizes the team’s needs over his own, a quality that sets him apart from previous captains. Sarfaraz remarked, “We’ve a very good captain. Shardul bhai is doing a great job.” He highlighted Thakur’s willingness to adapt his role for the team’s benefit, such as batting lower in the order when necessary. The camaraderie within the Mumbai team has also been a positive aspect, with players training and staying together, fostering a strong team spirit.

In team news, former captain Ajinkya Rahane will miss the upcoming match against Pondicherry due to back spasms. Rahane has been a key player for Mumbai, scoring 209 runs in four matches this season. His absence will likely see Akhil Herwadkar stepping in to fill the No. 3 spot. Herwadkar, who has a solid first-class record, will be looking to make an impact in Rahane’s absence. With 17 points from four matches, Mumbai leads Group D and aims to maintain their momentum after a recent victory over Himachal Pradesh.
