Rajnath Singh Engages US Defence Leaders in Washington
Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh held a crucial meeting with the senior leadership of prominent US defence companies in Washington DC. The round-table discussion, organized by the US India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF), aimed to explore and solidify co-development and co-production opportunities in the defence sector between India and the United States.
During the interaction, Shri Rajnath Singh emphasized the significance of the burgeoning partnership between the two nations, underpinned by progressive reforms initiated by the Government of India. These reforms have created an encouraging environment for foreign Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), particularly from the US, to establish manufacturing units in India, form Joint Ventures, and consider India as a viable alternative export base.
One of the key highlights of the discussion was the planned co-production of GE 414 aero-engines in India, a project that is expected to mark a significant milestone in the bilateral relations between India and the US. Shri Rajnath Singh underscored that ‘Partnership’ and ‘Joint Efforts’ are the defining elements of India’s approach to defence industry collaboration, setting it apart from other nations.
The roundtable included senior leaders from leading US defence and technology companies, including Boeing, GE, General Atomics, General Dynamics Land Systems, L3 Harris, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon Technologies, Rolls Royce, and Thayer Mahan. Indian companies like ideaForge, Tata Sons, and Tsecond were also represented, along with senior leaders from The Cohen Group.
The business leaders took the opportunity to outline their ongoing projects and plans for India while offering valuable feedback on enhancing the defence partnership. The interaction is expected further to deepen the strategic ties between India and the US, fostering innovation and technological advancement in the defence sector.
The engagement underscores the commitment of both nations to strengthen their defence collaboration, with a shared vision of co-developing cutting-edge technologies and enhancing mutual security interests.
