PM greets Dalai Lama on his 87th birthday

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has greeted Dalai Lama on his 87th birthday over phone earlier today. He also prayed for Dalai Lama’s long life and good health.

In a tweet, the Prime Minister said;

“Conveyed 87th birthday greetings to His Holiness the @DalaiLama over phone earlier today. We pray for his long life and good health.”

The 14th Dalai Lama, known as Gyalwa Rinpoche to the Tibetan people, is the current Dalai Lama, the highest spiritual leader and former head of state of Tibet.ย  He was born on 6 July 1935. He is the highest spiritual leader and former head of state of Tibet.

Subsequent to theย Annexation of Tibet by the People’s Republic of China, during theย 1959 Tibetan uprising, the Dalai Lama escaped toย India, where he currently lives in exile while remaining the most important spiritual leader of Tibet. The Dalai Lama advocates for the welfare of Tibetans while continuing to call for theย Middle Way Approachย with China to peacefully resolve the issue of Tibet; “The Tibetan people do not accept the present status of Tibet under the People’s Republic of China.
