GIFT Nifty Surpasses $23 Billion as Trading Activity Reaches New Heights
GIFT Nifty has achieved a significant trading milestone, with its turnover surpassing $23 billion on September 25, 2026. This marks the highest single-day turnover since the platform’s full-scale launch in July 2023. The cumulative turnover has reached $3.52 trillion, with over 76.19 million contracts traded since operations began.
The latest trading session saw GIFT Nifty record a turnover of $23.67 billion, with 512,023 contracts exchanged. Open interest also hit a new high at $21.87 billion, approximately Rs 2.10 lakh crore, with 471,287 contracts outstanding. These figures exceeded previous records, with the former single-day turnover high at $23.48 billion on February 20, 2026, and the previous open interest record of $21.56 billion set on June 25, 2026.
NSE International Exchange (NSE IX) described these achievements as a “new era for GIFT Nifty.” The exchange noted that trading turnover has been growing exponentially since the platform began full-scale operations on July 3, 2023.
This record-breaking session followed the National Stock Exchange of India’s (NSE) listing on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) on September 24, where shares debuted at Rs 1,800, a 0.84 percent premium over the issue price of Rs 1,785. NSE is a leading stock exchange in India, known for its diverse asset classes and a unique investor base that surpassed 11 crore in January 2025.
NSE IX, established in 2017 at GIFT City, operates as a multi-asset international exchange. It offers Indian single-stock and index derivatives, currency derivatives, depository receipts, and global stocks. The exchange also provides primary-market products, including equity shares, REITs, InvITs, and debt securities. Regulatory exemptions have been granted to allow US customers to participate in derivative contracts listed on NSE IX, enhancing the platform’s international reach.
