Kangana Ranaut Stands by ‘Lomdi’ Comment on Naseeruddin Shah
Kangana Ranaut has recently defended her controversial “lomdi” remark directed at veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah. In her explanation, she addressed the context of her comments, which were made in relation to protests and what she perceives as the film industry’s selective stance on political and social issues. The actress, who has also ventured into politics, previously criticized Shah while supporting the government during the NEET-related protests.
Context of the Controversy
In her remarks to ANI, Kangana stated, “I said this about Naseeruddin Shah because he had made such a distasteful video in which he was making threats of this kind. And whenever you look at his films, interviews or statements, it is always about Pakistan. Yeh Pakistan ki prem katha kab khatam hogi? Jab dekho Pakistan ke prem mein yeh mare rahte hain. Ab Partition ko bhi itne saal ho gaye hain toh yeh love story khatam kyun nahi ho rahi hai.” She expressed her frustration over Shah’s repeated focus on Pakistan in his work, questioning when this “love story” would finally end.
Kangana also recounted her own experiences with protests, revealing that demonstrators had gathered outside her home. She described the scene, saying, “People even climbed up to the gate of my house; there were at least two and a half thousand people outside, and such a massive police force had to be deployed that we couldn’t sleep at night.” She criticized those who she felt were being insincere during the protests at Jantar Mantar, stating, “So when a situation like this was unfolding at Jantar Mantar, they were all shedding crocodile tears.”
Critique of Bollywood’s Selective Solidarity
Kangana further questioned the film industry’s response to protests involving young people, particularly in Jharkhand. She pointed out what she sees as a double standard in the industry’s solidarity, saying, “But now that children in Jharkhand are facing this kind of oppression, aren’t they Gen Z too? Is someone only considered Gen Z if they act against the country or abuse the Prime Minister? They themselves have been made to appear anti-youth.”
She emphasized her belief that the film industry’s hypocrisy would not be tolerated, adding, “The crocodile tears that people from the film industry were shedding for Jantar Mantar, they should shed the same tears for the children in Jharkhand as well.” Kangana’s comments reflect her ongoing critique of the industry’s approach to social issues and its perceived lack of genuine support for all young people.
Standing by Her Remarks
Addressing her earlier comment about Naseeruddin Shah, Kangana stated, “Sach toh yeh hai har koi kisi na kisi ka kutta hai, lekin mujhe iss baat ka garv hai ki main jis ghar (desh) ki roti khati hoon uski rakhwali karti hoon/uske liye ladti hoon, Nasir Saab khaate toh iss desh ka hain lekin ladte padose desh keliye hain.” She reiterated her pride in defending her country while criticizing Shah for what she perceives as his loyalty to a neighboring nation.
Kangana also clarified her use of the term “lomdi,” asserting her stance on the remark. She remarked, “PS In today’s time it’s a compliment for humans to be called a dog because loyalty and cuteness are so rare. I’d rather be a dog than a lomdi like Nasiruddin.” Her latest comments continue to stir conversation around differing viewpoints within the Indian film industry.
