J&K Government Hosts State-Level Cybersecurity and Crisis Management Event

The Department of Information Technology in Jammu & Kashmir, in partnership with the National e-Governance Division and the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team, recently hosted a two-day workshop titled โCCMP Workshop and Cybersecurity Exercise.โ Held at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre in Srinagar on June 16 and 17, 2025, the event aimed to bolster cyber resilience among government departments by equipping senior officials with essential cybersecurity skills and crisis response strategies.
Workshop Objectives and Participants
The primary goal of the workshop was to enhance the cybersecurity capabilities of various government departments within the Union Territory. Senior officers, including Administrative Secretaries, Chief Information Security Officers, and nodal officers, participated in the program. The initiative focused on providing these officials with critical knowledge and hands-on experience in crisis response planning, which is vital in todayโs digital governance landscape. By fostering a deeper understanding of cybersecurity, the workshop aimed to ensure that government services remain secure and reliable for citizens.
Inaugural Session Highlights
The workshop commenced with an inaugural session led by Shri Satish Sharma, the Honโble Minister of Information Technology for Jammu & Kashmir. He underscored the significance of cybersecurity in the realm of digital governance, describing the workshop as a pivotal step toward enhancing the security of citizen services. Dr. Piyush Singla, the Secretary to the Government in the IT Department, welcomed participants and emphasized that robust cybersecurity is essential for good governance and public trust. He urged attendees to commit to building resilient systems and fostering a cyber-aware workforce. A keynote address by Shri Saurabh Bhagat, Commissioner/Secretary of FCS&CA, highlighted the evolving nature of the cybersecurity landscape and the necessity for proactive strategies and inter-departmental collaboration.
Interactive Sessions and Engagement
Throughout the workshop, participants engaged in a series of interactive presentations and hands-on exercises designed to deepen their understanding of cybersecurity frameworks. The sessions encouraged discussions on the current cyber threat landscape and the strategies departments can adopt to respond effectively. By promoting practical understanding, the workshop aimed to prepare officials for real-world cyber challenges. Concluding Remarks and Future Directions
The workshop concluded with a Valedictory Ceremony featuring Dr. Sanjay Bahl, Director General of CERT-In, who commended participants for their involvement. He stressed the importance of transitioning from reactive cybersecurity measures to a proactive approach focused on resilience and rapid recovery during cyber crises. Dr. Bahl highlighted the need for regular training and participation in CERT-In initiatives to strengthen cybersecurity frameworks. The closing remarks by Dr. Piyush Singla and a vote of thanks from Ms. Mahima Madan, CEO of JaKeGA, reinforced the workshop’s alignment with the national Digital India mission and the urgent need for secure digital infrastructure in light of recent cyber incidents.
