Indian Navy Ships Strengthen Ties with Singaporean Navy

Three Indian Naval Ships, Udaygiri, Kavaratti, and Shakti, arrived at Changi Naval Base in Singapore on July 1, 2026. This visit highlights the enduring partnership between the Indian and Singaporean navies, under the command of Rear Admiral Alok Ananda, the Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet. The event marks a significant moment in India’s ongoing maritime operations in Southeast Asia and aligns with the Government of India’s Act East Policy.

The visit also supports the vision of MAHASAGAR—an initiative aimed at enhancing maritime cooperation in the region. Furthermore, 2026 has been designated the ASEAN-India Year of Maritime Cooperation, making this visit a timely event in the framework of mutual regional engagement.

Strengthening Maritime Cooperation

During their time at the naval base, the Indian ships will conduct professional interactions with the Republic of Singapore Navy. These activities will include cross-deck visits and detailed discussions focused on issues of common maritime interest. Such engagements provide a valuable chance for personnel from both navies to share operational experiences and best practices, thus enhancing mutual understanding and interoperability.

Commitment to Regional Security

India’s commitment to collective maritime security remains robust, aiming to foster regional cooperation and collaboration among maritime partners. This port call in Singapore serves to reinforce these objectives, contributing to the shared vision of a safe, secure, and inclusive maritime environment.

The Indian Navy’s presence in the region demonstrates not only its operational capability but also its dedication to strengthening ties with ASEAN nations. Through such visits, India is advancing its role as a key player in promoting stability and peace in the Indo-Pacific waters.
