India-United Kingdom Science and Technology Partnership Dashboard Launched
Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India, Prof. Ajay Kumar Sood, and the UK’s National Technology Adviser, Dr. David Warren Smith, launched the pilot version of the India-United Kingdom Science and Technology Partnership (IN-UK-STP) Dashboard on November 4, 2025. This significant event took place during a bilateral meeting at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, attended by key officials from both nations. The dashboard aims to enhance collaboration by mapping 143 bilateral projects initiated since 2018, providing insights into funding, implementing partners, and alignment with strategic goals.
Overview of the IN-UK-STP Dashboard
The IN-UK-STP Dashboard is a collaborative effort between the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser and the British High Commission in India. It serves as a comprehensive tool that tracks 143 bilateral projects supported by various stakeholders from India and the UK since 2018. The dashboard provides detailed information on funding values, implementing partners, and funding agencies involved in these projects. By mapping these initiatives, the dashboard aims to facilitate better understanding and coordination between the two countries in the realm of science and technology.
The dashboard also aligns its project mapping with the objectives of the India-UK Science and Innovation Council (SIC) and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This alignment helps identify strategic synergies and priorities for both nations, ensuring that their collaborative efforts are directed towards achieving common goals in technology and innovation.
Insights from the Launch Event
During the launch event, Scientific Secretary Dr. Parvinder Maini emphasized the importance of the IN-UK-STP Dashboard as an evidence-based policy tool. She highlighted the successful collaboration between various ministries and departments from both governments, which has been crucial in advancing this initiative. Dr. Maini’s remarks underscored the dashboard’s potential to act as a catalyst for further scientific partnerships between India and the UK.
Prof. Sood remarked on the recent milestones in the bilateral relationship, including the India-UK Technology Security Initiative and the bilateral trade agreement. He noted that the dashboard could provide valuable insights for decision-makers, helping them identify gaps and align priorities to enhance the impact of their partnership. The dashboard is expected to play a significant role in shaping future collaborations and ensuring that both nations benefit from their scientific endeavors.
Future Directions and Recommendations
The discussions during the launch event led to several recommendations for the future development of the IN-UK-STP Dashboard. One key suggestion is to incorporate essential output and impact metrics, such as publications, patents, human resource development, startups, and private-sector partnerships. These metrics will provide a more comprehensive view of the outcomes of the bilateral projects.
Additionally, it was recommended that the dashboard evolve with timely data inputs from all relevant stakeholders on both sides. This evolution will ensure that the dashboard remains a dynamic tool, offering real-time insights for decision-makers and the broader scientific communities in both countries. By implementing these recommendations, the IN-UK-STP Dashboard can significantly enhance its utility and effectiveness in fostering collaboration between India and the UK in science and technology.
