India Launches e-Sankhyiki Portal with Extensive Data Resources

The Government of India has unveiled the e-Sankhyiki portal, a cutting-edge platform designed to house over 136 million records, showcasing 772 indicators and 18 statistical products across nine key themes. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance data accessibility, with contributions from the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), the Ministry of Labour and Employment, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, and the Reserve Bank of India.

Portal Development and Visitor Engagement

Launched in June 2024, the e-Sankhyiki portal is still in its developmental phase, meaning it has significant room for evolution in terms of features and functionalities. As of March 2025, the portal has registered an impressive 25,261 visitors, indicating growing interest among the public and data analysts. While formal assessments regarding user engagement have yet to be conducted, the initial visitor count reflects a positive trend towards utilization of this rich data resource.

Global Standards and Security Measures

e-Sankhyiki leverages global best practices in its construction, utilizing open-source software and adhering to the Government of India’s cyber security protocols. The portal has undergone periodic audits, successfully passing Vulnerability Assessment tests to ensure its safety for public access. The commitment to data security highlights the government’s focus on providing reliable and secure access to important statistics.

Data Accessibility Through APIs

The platform features a user-friendly data dissemination approach via Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), enabling seamless access for various users, including those utilizing other portals such as the National Data and Analytics Platform (NDAP). This openness facilitates interoperability between different data systems, making comprehensive statistics more readily available for analysis.

Government Insights on e-Sankhyiki

This information was shared in the Lok Sabha by Rao Inderjit Singh, the Minister of State (Independent Charge) for the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, who emphasized the portal’s strategic importance in enhancing statistical transparency. Singh’s announcement marks a significant step towards empowering citizens, researchers, and policymakers with access to robust data necessary for informed decision-making.
