Government Partners with Ramakrishna Mission for Family Initiative
The Department of Social Justice and Empowerment (DoSJE) has officially collaborated with Ramakrishna Math & Ramakrishna Mission (RKM) to launch an innovative initiative called ‘Creating Intergenerational Bonding.’ This program, unveiled today in the national capital, aims to enhance the emotional and cultural ties among children, parents, and grandparents through educational frameworks.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in a ceremony attended by several dignitaries, including Dr. Virendra Kumar, Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, and Shri B.L. Verma, Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment. The signing underscores the government’s commitment to fostering mutual respect among generations and promoting inclusive development—echoing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s philosophy that progress is only complete when all generations advance together.
Building Stronger Family Foundations
In his address, Dr. Virendra Kumar emphasized the crucial role of families as the bedrock of society. He expressed confidence that this partnership with the Ramakrishna Mission will allow families to rediscover the significance of being together. “Every generation must walk hand in hand for our nation to thrive; this embodies the essence of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas,'” he stated.
Creating a Model for Intergenerational Connectivity
Minister of State Shri B.L. Verma further reiterated the government’s dedication to reinforcing familial bonds across India. He noted that this MoU with RKM is set to establish a replicable model that brings three generations closer through a school-based initiative.
Ramakrishna Mission’s Commitment
Swami Sarvalokananda, Secretary of the Ramakrishna Mission, voiced his support for the collaboration, highlighting the organization’s belief in serving society through education and character-building. He expressed eagerness to assist families in valuing the wisdom of their elders and transmitting shared cultural values to younger generations.
A Comprehensive Approach to Family Engagement
During the event, Shri Sajeesh Kumar N., Joint Secretary of DoSJE, outlined the department’s vision for this initiative and welcomed the collaboration with RKM as a significant step towards developing sustainable models of family engagement in schools. The initiative includes an extensive research program focusing on the intergenerational challenges that modern families face through qualitative studies conducted in 50 schools across four regional segments of the country.
Resource Development and Training
A bilingual English-Hindi Resource Centre website will be established to aid teachers in conducting educational sessions. The project will also incorporate teacher certification training and the implementation of Co-Learning Game sessions in 200 schools nationwide. An independent assessment study will evaluate the program outcomes and guide further development across the country.
This initiative is aligned with the Ministry’s ongoing senior citizen welfare programs, such as the Atal Vayo Abhyuday Yojana (AVYAY). It is designed to enable elders to share their wisdom, help parents navigate the balance between tradition and modernity, and provide children with a culturally rooted upbringing alongside emotional security.
With over a century of experience in education, health, and service, the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission will serve as the primary implementer for this initiative. A Knowledge Development Partner will assist in research, design, and assessment efforts to ensure the program’s success.
