India Dominates Sri Lanka in T20I Series, Sweeping 5-0 with Stellar Performances

India’s women’s cricket team showcased their dominance in the final T20I against Sri Lanka in Thiruvananthapuram, securing a 15-run victory and completing a 5-0 series sweep. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur led from the front with a brilliant 68 runs off 43 balls, while Arundhati Reddy’s explosive late innings helped propel India to a total of 175/7. Despite a promising start, Sri Lanka faltered in their chase, finishing at 160/7, marking their first series defeat in bilateral T20Is.

India’s Batting Performance

India’s innings began with a shaky start as Shafali Verma fell early. However, captain Harmanpreet Kaur steadied the ship with her commanding performance. She struck nine fours and a six, maintaining a brisk tempo throughout her innings. The middle order struggled to build partnerships, with Richa Ghosh and Deepti Sharma unable to impose themselves against a disciplined Sri Lankan bowling attack. Despite the pressure, Amanjot Kaur contributed a lively 21 runs, but it was Arundhati Reddy’s late blitz that truly turned the tide. Her quickfire 27 runs off just 11 balls, including four boundaries and a six, helped India finish strong, adding crucial runs in the final overs.

Sri Lanka’s Chase

Chasing a target of 176 runs, Sri Lanka’s innings got off to a rocky start. They lost their captain, Chamari Athapaththu, early, leaving them at 7/1. However, Hasini Perera and Imesha Dulani steadied the innings with a solid partnership. Perera reached her maiden T20 fifty in just 37 balls, while Dulani also contributed significantly. At 75/1 after ten overs, Sri Lanka appeared to be in contention. Yet, India’s bowlers, including Vaishnavi Sharma and Sneh Rana, kept taking wickets at crucial moments. The turning point came when Sree Charani dismissed Perera for 65 runs, leaving Sri Lanka needing 44 runs from the last 22 balls. Ultimately, the visitors fell short, unable to maintain the momentum they had built earlier in the innings.

Milestones and Records

In this match, allrounder Deepti Sharma achieved a significant milestone by becoming the highest wicket-taker in women’s T20Is. She claimed her record-breaking wicket by trapping Nilakshika Silva for just three runs. This victory not only highlighted India’s batting prowess but also showcased their bowling depth. The team fielded an experimental lineup, resting key player Smriti Mandhana and with Jemimah Rodrigues still recovering from illness. Despite these changes, India displayed resilience and skill, further solidifying their status in women’s cricket.
