India and Nepal Forge New WASH Cooperation

The Governments of India and Nepal have taken a significant step towards enhancing public health by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) focused on the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) sector. The agreement, signed in New Delhi, aims to improve access to clean drinking water and sanitation for citizens in both countries. Key officials from both nations attended the ceremony, highlighting the importance of collaboration in addressing water-related challenges.

Strengthening Bilateral Ties in WASH

One major aspect is capacity building, which involves training programs aimed at enhancing the skills of Nepali personnel in water resource management. Additionally, the agreement emphasizes technology and knowledge transfer, allowing both countries to share best practices and technological advancements in the WASH sector. Furthermore, joint efforts in groundwater management will be undertaken, focusing on monitoring, assessment, and the improvement of groundwater quality through methods like artificial recharge and rainwater harvesting.

Commitment to Public Health and Sustainability

During the signing ceremony, Minister Patil underscored India’s achievements in providing clean drinking water and sanitation facilities under Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s leadership. He emphasized that this MoU is a testament to the shared commitment of both nations towards enhancing public health and sustainability. Minister Yadav praised India’s extensive initiatives in clean drinking water and sanitation, expressing Nepal’s eagerness to learn from India’s experiences.
