India and Egypt Discuss Strengthening Strategic Ties

The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) of India welcomed a high-ranking Egyptian delegation led by H.E. Prof. Dr. Ayman Bahaa El Din, Deputy Minister of Technical Education, for crucial discussions on April 28, 2025, at Kaushal Bhawan in New Delhi. This meeting signifies a significant step in enhancing the India-Egypt relationship, which has recently been elevated to a Strategic Partnership. The discussions follow the recognition of Prime Minister Narendra Modi with Egyptโ€™s highest civilian honor, further solidifying the ties between the two nations.

Strengthening Bilateral Ties

During the meeting, Shri Atul Kumar Tiwari, Secretary of MSDE, emphasized the strong people-to-people and institutional connections that exist between India and Egypt. He outlined India’s ambition to become the “Skill Capital of the World” through the Skill India Mission. This initiative has already trained nearly 400,000 individuals in advanced fields such as artificial intelligence, robotics, and big data, while also fostering over 1.3 million entrepreneurs. The discussions highlighted the importance of these initiatives in promoting skill development and enhancing employability in both countries.

Global Standards in Vocational Training

India’s commitment to aligning its vocational education and training (TVET) ecosystem with international standards was a focal point of the discussions. The establishment of world-class Skill India International Centres was presented as a model for global collaboration in skill development. The Egyptian delegation shared their experiences regarding comprehensive reforms in their TVET system, including the EU-supported TVET Egypt Reform Programme and the creation of Sector Skill Councils. These initiatives resonate with India’s scalable and affordable skilling models, showcasing a mutual interest in enhancing vocational training.

Collaborative Initiatives and Future Prospects

Both delegations acknowledged the success of existing collaborations, including the 2024 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Indiaโ€™s National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) and Egyptโ€™s Information Technology Institute. Other notable partnerships include the El-Sewedy Group’s collaboration with Amity University and the Indian-supported Vocational Training Centre in Cairo. Looking forward, the two countries identified several promising areas for future cooperation, such as joint certification programs, faculty and student exchanges, and initiatives focused on digital skills and entrepreneurship.

Commitment to a Future-Ready Workforce

The discussions concluded with a shared commitment to developing a globally competitive and future-ready workforce. Both nations expressed their intention to use their partnership as a model for broader South-South cooperation. The establishment of Centres of Excellence in key sectors like information technology, agriculture, tourism, and green skills was also highlighted as a priority for future collaboration. This engagement marks a significant step towards enhancing skill development and fostering economic growth in both India and Egypt.
