Fatwa Declared Against Aamir Khan Following Marriage to Gauri Spratt, Reports Say

Days after Aamir Khan tied the knot with his longtime partner Gauri Spratt in a private ceremony, a cleric has issued a fatwa against the actor. The fatwa raises objections to the interfaith marriage on religious grounds, stirring discussions across social media and news platforms. The marriage took place under the Special Marriage Act, and the couple celebrated with close family and friends.

Cleric’s Objections to Interfaith Marriage

According to ANI, Maulana Ibrahim Hussain, the Shahi Chief Mufti of the Muslim Personal Darul Ifta, stated that Aamir’s marriage is not permissible under his interpretation of Sharia law because Gauri Spratt is not a Muslim. A video of the cleric discussing the matter has circulated online, where he remarked, “Muslim mard ke liye, iman walon ke liye, gair muslim se shaadi karna haraam hai.” He further claimed that Muslims who marry non-Muslim women are committing a sin, labeling such unions as “haraam.”

The cleric specifically addressed Aamir Khan’s situation, saying, “This question is about film actor Aamir Khan. He has recently entered into a third marriage with a non-Muslim woman.” He also noted the societal protests that have arisen in response to the marriage. Maulana Ibrahim Hussain emphasized that a Muslim man is not allowed to marry a non-Muslim woman unless she converts to Islam.

Aamir Khan’s Marital History

Aamir Khan married Gauri Spratt on July 5, 2026, marking his third marriage. His previous unions include a marriage to Reena Dutta, with whom he shares two children, Junaid Khan and Ira Khan. The couple divorced in 2002 after 16 years of marriage. Aamir later married filmmaker Kiran Rao in 2005, whom he met during the production of “Lagaan.” They welcomed their son, Azad Rao Khan, via surrogacy in 2011. Aamir and Kiran announced their separation in 2021 but have continued to co-parent Azad while maintaining a professional relationship.
