Eastern India Gears Up for Innovation at AIM SUMVAAD 2026
As Eastern India positions itself as a vibrant center for innovation and entrepreneurship, the Regional AIM SUMVAAD-East Chapter 2026 has taken a significant step forward. Organized by the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) under NITI Aayog, this event convened key stakeholders from government, industry, academia, and the startup ecosystem, aiming to create a collaborative pathway for the region’s next phase of innovation-led growth.
The conclave, held at O-Hub in Bhubaneswar, also marked the launch of the AIM-Odisha Chapter. This new collaborative platform integrates Atal Incubation Centres (AICs) and Atal Community Innovation Centres (ACICs) across Odisha. The initiative aims to enhance inter-incubator collaboration, providing startups with shared access to vital programs, infrastructure, mentors, investors, and strategic partners, thus fostering an enriched innovation ecosystem in Odisha.
Smt. Chithra Arumugam, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary of the Science & Technology Department, Government of Odisha, delivered the keynote address during the opening session. She emphasized Eastern India’s growing significance in the national innovation framework and highlighted the role of collaborative ecosystems, institutional partnerships, and policy support in cultivating competitive startup environments.
In a virtual address, the Mission Director of the Atal Innovation Mission at NITI Aayog remarked, “Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has consistently envisioned innovation as the foundation of a Viksit Bharat. The Atal Innovation Mission is putting this vision into practice by enhancing innovation ecosystems beyond urban centers, empowering every region to serve as an engine for growth. Initiatives like AIM SUMVAAD create platforms for institutions, incubators, entrepreneurs, and governments to work together, unlocking local capabilities and building a robust innovation-driven India from the grassroots level.”
Program Lead of Atal Innovation Mission, Pramit Dash, welcomed the participants and set a dynamic tone for the conclave, underscoring the significance of regional partnerships in advancing entrepreneurship, innovation, and sustainable economic progress across Eastern India.
The summit attracted active visibility from Atal Incubation Centres and Atal Community Innovation Centres across Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal. This level of engagement exemplifies the rising momentum for regional collaboration and reinforces the vital role of interconnected innovation ecosystems in promoting entrepreneurship throughout Eastern India.
The day’s agenda included policy discussions, industry dialogues, and themed sessions under the title “Purvodaya – Building an Ecosystem for Sunrise Sectors.” Topics covered included strategies for bolstering state startup ecosystems, enhancing collaborative innovation, fostering grassroots entrepreneurship in aspirational districts, and tapping into growth sectors such as mining, biotechnology, and life sciences.
With successful engagements seen in the North, South, and Central regions, this initiative continues to bridge the gap among policymakers, incubators, industry stakeholders, and entrepreneurs, strengthening innovation networks that are deeply rooted in local strengths and contribute to India’s ambition for a Viksit Bharat.
