Discover the U19 World Cup 2026 Team of the Tournament: Full List Unveiled!

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the Team of the Tournament for the ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2026, featuring three standout players from India’s victorious squad: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Kanishk Chouhan, and Henil Patel. Sooryavanshi, who scored an impressive 175 runs in the final against England, was also named Player of the Tournament for accumulating a total of 439 runs throughout the competition. The team includes three players from the runner-up England, highlighting the competitive nature of the tournament.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s Record-Breaking Performance

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s performance in the final was nothing short of spectacular. He scored 175 runs off just 80 balls, leading India to victory over England. His innings included a staggering 15 sixes, setting a new record for the most sixes in a single Under-19 World Cup match. This achievement surpassed the previous record of 12 sixes held by Australia’s Michael Hill. Sooryavanshi’s explosive batting also featured 15 fours, with 150 of his runs coming from boundaries alone. His remarkable strike rate of 218.75 not only helped secure the championship for India but also earned him the Player of the Tournament title, recognizing his overall contribution of 439 runs during the event.

Key Contributions from Teammates

Alongside Sooryavanshi, Kanishk Chouhan and Henil Patel played crucial roles in India’s success. Chouhan consistently contributed with both bat and ball, showcasing his all-round abilities throughout the tournament. Patel, on the other hand, was a standout bowler, finishing with 11 wickets, including an impressive spell of 5 for 16 against the USA. Their performances were instrumental in guiding India to the title, demonstrating the depth of talent within the team.

England’s Strong Representation

The runner-up England team also made a significant impact, with three players selected for the Team of the Tournament. Thomas Rew, who served as captain and wicketkeeper, scored 330 runs at an average of 66, including a match-winning century in the semi-final against Australia. He was joined by Manny Lumsden, the tournament’s highest wicket-taker with 16 wickets, and Ben Mayes, who emerged as the leading run-scorer with 444 runs, highlighted by a remarkable 191-run innings against Scotland. Mayes narrowly missed breaking the all-time highest individual score in the tournament, which was set just days earlier by Sri Lanka’s Viran Chamuditha.

Notable Performers from Other Teams

The Team of the Tournament also features standout players from other competing nations. Sri Lanka’s Viran Chamuditha, who scored 192 runs against Japan, made the squad alongside Afghanistan’s Faisal Khan Shinozada and Nooristani Omarzai. Shinozada was pivotal for Afghanistan, scoring consecutive centuries against Ireland and India, while Omarzai took 14 wickets, including a best of 5 for 9 against Tanzania. Australia’s Oliver Peake also made his mark with two centuries, and Pakistan’s Ali Raza and West Indies’ Vitel Lawes rounded out the team, showcasing their impressive bowling performances. This diverse selection highlights the emerging talent in international youth cricket.
