CGST Launches Urgent GST Registration Drive

The Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) Delhi East Commissionerate has successfully initiated a GST Registration Campaign on March 21-22, 2025, aimed at boosting registration and compliance among unregistered manufacturers and traders. This campaign is a strategic effort to engage local businesses and educate them on the significance of GST registration, ultimately fostering a more compliant economic environment.

Campaign Objectives and Locations

The primary goal of the GST Registration Campaign was to reach out to unregistered traders and manufacturers within the CGST Delhi East jurisdiction. The campaign emphasized the importance of registering with the GST Department and adhering to legal provisions. Key locations for the initiative included:

    1. Hallan Chowk, Old Seelampur
    1. Gole Baithak, Old Seelampur
    1. Jacket Market of Jaffrabad
    1. Subhash Road, Gandhi Nagar
    1. New Seelampur

At these sites, GST Helpdesks were established to assist traders with their queries and facilitate the registration process. The campaign aimed to address the challenges faced by many local businesses, particularly those that primarily conducted transactions in cash, which can adversely affect the economy.

Community Engagement and Response

The campaign received an enthusiastic response from the local trade community, with many previously unregistered traders stepping forward to register their businesses. Over the two-day event, GST officers addressed more than 2,000 inquiries, providing essential guidance on the registration process. The initiative proved fruitful, resulting in over 100 on-the-spot registration applications. To enhance outreach, 200 students from various universities participated as GST Ambassadors. These volunteers played a crucial role in raising awareness about GST provisions, going door-to-door to inform traders about the benefits of registration. They also distributed 7,500 pamphlets in Hindi and Urdu, further promoting the campaign’s objectives.

Innovative Awareness Strategies

The campaign employed various innovative strategies to engage the community. A public announcement system, skits, and street plays were organized by the National School of Drama (NSD) team to highlight the importance of tax compliance. These activities aimed to educate the public on the significance of paying taxes and the repercussions of non-compliance. The successful execution of this campaign marks a significant step toward increasing GST registration among unorganized sectors, thereby enhancing compliance and contributing to the overall growth of the Indian economy. The CGST Delhi East Commissionerate is dedicated to continuing such initiatives to integrate all sectors of trade into the formal economy, promoting transparency and accountability.

Leadership and Future Initiatives

The GST registration campaign was conducted under the guidance of Shri Pawan Kumar, Commissioner of CGST Delhi East, and Shri Paras Shankhla, Additional Commissioner. The initiative was closely supervised by Shri Jyotiraditya, Additional Commissioner, along with a dedicated team of GST officials. The campaign concluded with a ceremony led by Shri Mahesh Kumar Rustogi, Director General of the Directorate General of Taxpayer Services (DGTS). During the event, he emphasized the importance of formalizing the economy to achieve the ambitious target of a $5 trillion economy. He encouraged participants to continue these efforts, envisioning a future where such campaigns expand beyond Delhi East CGST to other regions across the country.
