Shilp Samagam Mela 2026: Celebrate India’s Rich Heritage
The vibrant Shilp Samagam Mela 2026 is set to ignite cultural celebrations in the National Capital from November 1 to 15, 2026. Organized by the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, this two-week event aims to showcase India’s traditional crafts and cultural heritage, themed ‘प्रकाश और परंपरा – ज्योति से ज्योति जलाएँ’. Attendees can expect a delightful mix of artisan products, live craft demonstrations, and enthralling cultural performances.
Supporting Artisans and Inclusion
A senior official from the Ministry highlights that the Mela continues its commitment to empowering aspirational communities. It provides a platform for artisans to showcase their creativity and traditional skills, allowing them to reach a larger audience. Since its inception in 2022, the Shilp Samagam Melas have positively impacted over 1,000 artisans, fostering both visibility and market opportunities.
A Combined Celebration of Crafts and Culture
This year marks a unique collaboration between the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment (DoSJE) and the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan) (DEPwD). They will jointly host Shilp Utsav, featuring about 150 stalls under the Bharat TULIP and Purple Fest initiatives. This collaboration aims to enrich the fair with traditional artisans and inclusive participation, celebrating creativity across varied communities.
Exploring Diverse Thematic Zones
The Mela will showcase seven thematic zones, each highlighting different aspects of Indian culture. ‘कला आँगन’ will feature live craft demonstrations, while ‘प्रकाश चौक’ will focus on lamps and festive lighting. ‘पूजा पथ’ will present devotional products, and ‘सजावट बाज़ार’ will emphasize home décor. The ‘घराना’ zone will spotlight textiles and fashion, ‘स्वाद चौक’ will tantalize taste buds with food, and ‘मंच’ will host various cultural performances.
Empowering Traditional Arts with Bharat TULIP
The Bharat TULIP (Traditional Artisans’ Upliftment Livelihood Programme) aims to market artisan products both domestically and internationally through e-commerce platforms. This initiative supports economic empowerment while preserving India’s rich traditions of art and craftsmanship.
Celebrating Inclusion and Disability Awareness
The Purple Fest will serve as a multidimensional celebration of creativity and equal participation for persons with disabilities, connecting artists, organizations, and stakeholders. This occasion will not only highlight achievements but also promote understanding and awareness about inclusion.
Through Shilp Samagam Mela 2026, the Ministry seeks to enhance the visibility of traditional artisans and foster public engagement with India’s diverse craftsmanship and cultural heritage.
