Railway Security Leaders Unite to Tackle Challenges at National Conference

The 8th All India Conference of Government Railway Police (GRP) Chiefs recently wrapped up in New Delhi, marking a significant step forward in collaborative efforts to address emerging security challenges across Indian Railways. The event, held on October 23, 2026, was organized by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and aimed to enhance coordination among RPF, GRP, and State Police while sharing best practices for improving passenger safety.
Presided over by RPF Director General Ms. Sonali Mishra, the conference brought together key railway officials, including Railway Board Chairman and CEO Shri Satish Kumar and various GRP chiefs from States and Union Territories. The discussions focused on modernizing approaches to railway security and ensuring passenger safety in light of recent challenges.
Innovative Solutions for Passenger Grievances
One of the standout moments was the introduction of the RailMadad platform, designed to onboard GRP personnel. This initiative, provided by the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS), aims to streamline passenger grievance redressal, improve information sharing, and monitor complaints effectively.
Tackling Stone-Pelting and Community Engagement
Participants also addressed the serious issue of stone-pelting on trains, with a focus on proactive measures such as hotspot patrolling, increased surveillance, and community outreach programs. Emphasis was placed on the necessity of stringent actions against offenders and fostering engagement with local youth, which is essential for deterring such incidents. Community awareness campaigns were recognized as vital components in achieving these goals.
Effective Crowd Management Strategies
The conference included thorough discussions on crowd management strategies during festivals such as Diwali and Chhath. Northern Railway’s Delhi Division showcased its collaborative efforts with Delhi Police, GRP, and Delhi Metro, utilizing tools like CCTV surveillance, public announcements, and designated holding areas to ensure passenger safety during busy periods. Coordinating these efforts promotes a secure and orderly travel experience.
Promoting Safety Awareness Among Children
Central Railway’s Pune Division presented Project DISHA, an initiative targeting children living near railway tracks. Through educational sessions and recreational activities, this program promotes safety awareness and responsible behavior. Collaborations with NGOs and volunteers aim to instill safe practices while discouraging dangerous actions like theft or stone-pelting.
Enhanced Training and Coordination
Further discussions included joint training between RPF and GRP personnel, sabotage prevention, and rapid information sharing regarding narcotics. The conference participants agreed on the importance of standardized procedures and intelligence sharing to bolster investigative capabilities and supporting infrastructure for railway operations.
In his closing remarks, the Railway Board Chairman emphasized the need for innovative technology and a dedicated approach among railway authorities, RPF, GRP, and State Police to effectively tackle evolving security challenges. He highlighted the importance of building passenger confidence through courteous service and efficient policing.
