Imran Khan Fights Back Against FRRO’s Exit Order by October 28; Raza Murad Critiques His Protest Involvement

Actor Imran Khan, who holds American citizenship and an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card, is preparing to contest a directive from the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) that requires him to leave India by October 28.

Background of the Controversy

The scrutiny surrounding Khan intensified after his involvement in a protest organized by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) in Mumbai. The demonstration aimed to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Following the protest, BJP leader Kirit Somaiya filed a police complaint, claiming that Khan’s participation breached regulations governing foreign citizens.

The police subsequently forwarded Somaiya’s complaint to the FRRO, which issued a notice instructing Khan to exit the country. The FRRO’s stance is that holding an OCI card does not grant foreign nationals the right to engage in protests. This order was issued under the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025, which empowers the Central Government to regulate the presence and movement of foreign nationals in India.

Reactions from the Industry

Veteran actor Raza Murad has publicly criticized Khan, stating that foreign nationals should refrain from interfering in India’s domestic matters. He defended the authorities’ actions, emphasizing that Khan has been given adequate time to respond to the order and can seek judicial intervention if he believes the decision is unjust.

“Whether it is Imran Khan or anyone else, no foreign national has any business interfering in the internal affairs of our country. I have only just learned that Imran Khan has become a U.S. national; he was an actor here. As a U.S. national, he has no right to participate so actively in the country’s internal affairs or its politics. The Mumbai Police are acting strictly within the legal framework,” Murad told ANI.

Murad further elaborated that Khan has a 15-day window to address the situation. “He has been given a full 15 days. If he feels he is being treated unfairly or being forced to leave the country, he is welcome to approach the court, and whatever the court decides, we must all accept it. Let’s see how he reacts. He has two options: either leave the country by October 28, or if he does not wish to leave, or feels that he has been wronged or treated unjustly, he can take his grievance to the court,” he added.

Legal Challenge Ahead

Imran Khan’s upcoming legal challenge will bring the matter before the Bombay High Court, where the validity of the FRRO’s order will be scrutinized. The outcome of this case could have significant implications for Khan and his future in India.
