Bigg Boss 20: Qazi Touqeer Reflects on Being Called “Arrogant” for Rejecting Ekta Kapoor’s TV Offer at 20
Bigg Boss 20 contestant Qazi Touqeer recently shared insights about his early career opportunities, including a significant television offer from renowned producer Ekta Kapoor. In a candid conversation with Aamrapali Dubey, Qazi reflected on his meeting with Kapoor in 2005 and the reasons behind his decision to decline the opportunity.
Qazi’s Encounter with Ekta Kapoor
Qazi, who gained fame after winning Fame Gurukul alongside Ruprekha Banerjee in 2005, recalled, “TV maine kabhi kiya nahin. TV ki opportunity bahot badi badi thi. Main khushkismat tha jiske liye Ekta Kapoor ji aayi 2005 mein and she narrated the story.” He vividly remembered being captivated by Kapoor’s rings while she narrated the character of Rockstar to him.
Instead of directly declining the offer, Qazi chose to communicate his decision through a woman named Anupama. He explained, “Ma’am, I am already doing a film. I have a contract, it’s already signed.” This approach allowed him to maintain professionalism while honoring his existing commitments.
Media Misrepresentation and Its Impact
Following his decision, Qazi faced negative media coverage that misrepresented his choice. He recounted, “Main subah breakfast mein dekh raha hoon, ‘Qazi ditched Ekta Kapoor. Qazi has a bigger fish to fry.’ Ye paper aisa hi hai, media aisa hi hai.” The reports suggested that he had turned down Kapoor’s offer for a more significant opportunity, which was not the case.
At that time, social media was not available for immediate clarification. Qazi lamented, “Us time clarification karne ke liye thodi tha hamare paas social media. Ho gaya badnaam, ban gaya arrogant.” This lack of a platform to defend himself contributed to a misunderstanding of his character and intentions.
Qazi’s Journey in Entertainment
Qazi Touqeer became a household name after his victory in Fame Gurukul, which not only brought him fame but also a cash prize, a music contract, and a car. Following his success in the singing competition, he ventured into acting, making an appearance in the song ‘Afghan Jalebi’ from the film Phantom and participating in the reality show Sarkaar Ki Duniya.
After years of performing live and engaging in various projects, Qazi returned to the entertainment scene as a contestant on Bigg Boss 20, hosted by Salman Khan, in 2026.
