Ajay Devgn and Kajol’s Juhu Bungalow Hit with BMC Stop-Work Notice for Salon and Spa Plans
Actor Ajay Devgn and his wife Kajol are facing scrutiny over their Juhu bungalow after the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) issued a stop-work notice. This notice pertains to ongoing construction linked to a proposed salon and spa at their property. The action follows objections from the Kapol Co-operative Housing Society, which has raised concerns about the commercial use of what is primarily a residential area.
The Devgn family asserts that they have obtained all necessary permissions and approvals for the proposed venture. The situation now hinges on the documentation submitted by the property owners and the BMC’s evaluation of those approvals.
BMC Seeks Documentation on Commercial Use
The bungalow in question spans 7,802 square feet and is located at Plot S-10 on N S Road No. 11 in Mumbai’s JVPD Scheme. Reports indicate that the housing society alerted the BMC after noticing construction activities related to the salon and spa. Following this complaint, officials from the BMC’s K-West ward requested documentation concerning the proposed commercial activity.
The BMC stated that the required permissions for commercial use were not provided, leading to the issuance of the stop-work notice. Local corporator Sudha Singh commented on the situation, saying, “The issue is with the Building and Factory Department of K-West ward,” and added that “prima facie, no permission was granted for commercial use” of the property. The Devgn family has reportedly requested four weeks to respond to the notice.
Society Raises Concerns Over Commercial Activity
The dispute primarily revolves around the intended use of the bungalow rather than any leasing arrangements. Residents have expressed concerns about the potential impact of a commercial establishment in their residential neighborhood. Issues such as increased foot traffic, parking demands, security, and noise have been raised, especially given the narrow internal roads in the area.
Reports suggest that Florian Hurel Salons Pvt Ltd has entered into a five-year registered leave-and-licence agreement for the bungalow, effective from August 10. The initial rent is reported to be Rs 16 lakh per month, with annual escalations. The housing society has also questioned whether the proposed salon and spa can operate without the necessary civic and statutory clearances. They have sought documentation regarding the commercial activity and related approvals.
Devgn Camp Claims Approvals Have Been Obtained
While the BMC has indicated that the relevant permissions were not presented when requested, the Devgn camp disputes any claims that the proposed venture is operating without the necessary approvals. A source from the Devgn camp told Hindustan Times, “The requisite permissions and approvals from the concerned authorities in relation to the proposed use of the premises have been duly obtained.”
This conflicting information now places the focus on the paperwork and whether the approvals cited by the Devgn camp adequately cover the proposed commercial activity at the bungalow.
