India Prepares Workforce for AI Era with New Initiative
The National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) and Intel India recently convened a National Leadership Dialogue in New Delhi focused on preparing the future workforce for the emerging Agentic AI era. The event gathered key stakeholders, including government representatives, industry leaders, and academic experts, to discuss the rapid advancements in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and their implications for work and education in India.
With the landscape of AI rapidly shifting, the dialogue served as a platform to identify both opportunities and challenges in integrating AI into the workforce. Key topics included the evolution of required skills, alignment of educational curricula with industry needs, and the importance of experiential learning to foster better readiness among students and professionals.
Key Speakers Highlight Future Skills
Shri Shashi Shekhar Vempati, Chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification, emphasized that as the nature of work continues to transform, the focus must be on skills, employability, and lifelong learning. He praised the collaborative efforts between NIELIT and Intel India in democratizing access to Agentic AI education and stressed the need for pathways that blend foundational and advanced technology skills with real-world applications.
NIELIT’s Commitment to Education
Dr. Madan Mohan Tripathi, the Director General of NIELIT, highlighted the institution’s mission to equip educators and learners with the necessary tools for participating in a rapidly changing technological environment. He noted that the collaboration with Intel enhances NIELIT’s reach and resourcefulness, aimed at integrating AI learning into educational institutions across India.
Government’s AI Vision
Shri Sudeep Shrivastava, COO of the IndiaAI Mission, underscored the government’s aim to create a robust AI talent pipeline for India’s digital economy. He pointed out that industry-based training and AI-centric education initiatives are essential to strengthen capabilities within academic institutions and enable students to gain practical experience in emerging AI technologies.
New Education Initiative Launched
As a significant outcome of the dialogue, the NIELIT–Intel India Agentic AI Skilling Initiative was launched to broaden access to AI-related educational opportunities. It features two distinct programs: “Agentic AI for Everyone,” which introduces learners to AI systems and workflow automation, and “Engineering Agentic AI Systems,” which focuses on the design and deployment of scalable AI solutions.
This new initiative aims to foster collaboration among government, industry, and academia, ensuring that India’s future workforce is equipped to thrive in an AI-driven economy. With practical, industry-aligned training at its core, the NIELIT and Intel initiative is set to empower learners and educators across the nation, steering India toward its next phase of AI-enhanced growth.
