Jio Studios Withdraws from Brahmastra 2; Ayan Mukerji Seeks New Studio Partner for Star-Studded Cast

Since last week, the buzz around “Brahmastra 2” has taken the internet by storm. Reports indicate that Alia Bhatt will make an extended special appearance in the sequel to the beloved film. Additionally, Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone are set to lead the cast. As excitement builds, new details about the film’s production have emerged.

Production Details and Studio Partnerships

A trade source informed Bollywood Hungama that Ayan Mukerji’s production house, Starlight Pictures Private Limited, which produced the first part of “Brahmastra,” will also be behind the sequel. The company holds the rights to the film’s intellectual property and is currently seeking a studio partner to collaborate on “Brahmastra 2.”

The source elaborated, “The makers were in discussions with Jio Studios to come on board as the studio partner for Brahmastra 2. However, those talks did not materialise and Jio has now decided against associating with the sequel.” Interestingly, Star Studios was a key partner in the first “Brahmastra.” With Star’s entertainment business now part of JioStar, there was hope for continued collaboration. However, as it stands, neither Jio Studios nor Star Studios will be involved in the sequel.

Changes in Production Partnerships

Dharma Productions, which also contributed to the first “Brahmastra,” is not part of the second installment either. After Dharma stepped away, Ayan Mukerji reached out to Yash Raj Films (YRF) for potential collaboration. Aditya Chopra expressed interest, especially when Ayan was directing “War 2” for YRF. However, following the underwhelming performance of “War 2,” YRF chose not to pursue the discussions further. Jio Studios later entered the conversation, but that partnership also fell through. Consequently, the makers are once again on the lookout for the right studio partner for “Brahmastra 2.”

Anticipation for the Sequel

Despite the challenges in securing a studio partner, industry insiders believe that a project of this magnitude will attract interest. One insider remarked, “Brahmastra was a major theatrical success and the franchise continues to enjoy tremendous recall among audiences. More importantly, the second part is expected to feature Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone in leading roles, along with Alia Bhatt in an extended special appearance.” This star-studded combination positions “Brahmastra 2” as one of the most high-profile Hindi films currently in development. The right scale and execution could lead to a significant opening, ensuring that Ayan Mukerji and his team will have no shortage of potential studio partners to engage with.
