Nazdeekiyan: Dharmatic’s New Star-Studded Drama
Netflix India’s Musafir Cafe, featuring Vikrant Massey, Vedika Pinto, and Mahima Makwana, has quickly become one of the most successful streaming shows of the year. This eight-episode romantic drama, adapted from Divya Prakash Dubey’s best-selling novel, has struck a chord with viewers through its sensitive exploration of modern relationships and the compromises that often accompany adulthood. Following its success, Netflix has already renewed Musafir Cafe for a second season.
Ruchir Arun Shifts Focus to Nazdeekiyan
While fans eagerly await the continuation of Musafir Cafe, director Ruchir Arun is set to embark on a new project. Bollywood Hungama has learned that the National Award-winning filmmaker will not be returning to the hills just yet. Instead, he is turning his attention to Nazdeekiyan, an upcoming series for Amazon Prime Video produced by Karan Johar’s Dharmatic Entertainment, the digital content arm of Dharma Productions.
Nazdeekiyan boasts a talented cast, including Nikita Dutta, Aakanksha Singh, Paresh Pahuja, and Taaha Shah Badusha in lead roles. Nikita Dutta is recognized for her television work and has appeared in films such as Lekar Hum Deewana Dil and Jewel Thief, where she starred alongside Saif Ali Khan. Aakanksha Singh, known for her roles in Na Bole Tum Na Maine Kuch Kaha and films like Badrinath Ki Dulhania, also joins the ensemble. Paresh Pahuja has been seen in Bandish Bandits and Chand Mera Dil, while Taaha Shah Badusha gained fame for his role in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi.
Exploring Complex Relationships
Set against a contemporary backdrop, Nazdeekiyan delves into emotional themes reminiscent of Karan Johar’s 2006 film Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna. The series follows two couples whose lives are disrupted when their spouses become entangled in an all-consuming relationship. The characters grapple with the challenging question of whether true happiness is worth the potential heartbreak it may inflict on their loved ones.
The writing team for Nazdeekiyan includes Priyanka Bannerjee, Prateek Payodi, Abhinandan Sridhar, and Heem Verma, with dialogues crafted by Preeti Mamgain. As the series is currently in the final stages of scripting, pre-production is expected to commence within the next two months. Filming is likely to begin towards the end of 2026, with a premiere anticipated in 2027 on Prime Video.
This project represents an exciting new chapter for Arun, who has earned acclaim for his nuanced portrayals of contemporary relationships in previous works like Little Things, Feels Like Ishq, and Unpaused. Following the success of Musafir Cafe, Nazdeekiyan promises to once again explore the complexities of love and relationships, this time navigating a more intricate emotional landscape. With Dharmatic backing the project and a strong ensemble cast, Nazdeekiyan is poised to be one of Prime Video’s most anticipated relationship dramas in 2027.
